Judges Comments for Footloose at Bothell High School

“The lighting concept was very strong. I thought that the lighting established the mood very effectively….I liked the look of the trestle lighting…The design in general was very strong.”

“There was some very effective lighting in scenes such as: the bridge scene, all of the scenes in front of the chain link fence. Also, the effect in “Somebody’s Eyes” with the lights quickly going up and down on the groups of the people behind the scrim were very good. Good work!”

From Students

“Thanks to Beth, I was hooked on theatre since the elementary school. She taught me all the basics I needed and was always there for me whenever I had questions farther down the road in my career. I became a talented lighting designer thanks to her and now have graduated to filmmaking. It would have been impossible to take this road in life without her support.” - Cordelia

"Beth was my lighting mentor through out my high school career and has taught me everything I know about lighting. I have taken the knowledge she has given me and moved on to continue studying lighting design at Western Washington University and have future plans on becoming a lighting designer. Although I am only a freshmen in college, I have already been given the opportunity to be a lighting designer for a main stage show at Western all because of the knowledge and experience that I gained from working with Beth. Working with Beth has been a great experience and not only has Beth challenged me to become better at what I love to do, she has inspired me to become the best I can be both on and off stage."  - Joe

"The first time I worked with Beth was when I was in the 3rd grade and it would never stop there. I shortly was taught as much as possible on a light board and how to work with lights and their design.

I worked with her on so many shows I can’t remember them all, but she always was able to show me new tricks with lights or different way to create looks with each kind of light. I currently no longer work professionally in the theatre arts but still enjoy watching and helping when I can. What she taught me helped with all of my job experience of working with others and of course my presentation skills...just ask her my first light plots were horrible. I now work in the computer industry as a computer software engineer in test and the presentation skills and teamwork skills she showed me help me to this day."  - Mitchell

"I think Beth is an excellent lighting designer and an extraordinary teacher. She knows a lot about theatre and is really helpful to everyone. I really like working with Beth; she has a great sense of humor and she even gives roses to her crews on opening night! I'm sure that I will be able to apply all the principles of lighting design that I've learned from Beth when I continue designing in college."  - Berkeley

From Educators

“Beth was able almost immediately to gain the trust and support of our ensemble. In her own way, Beth earns the respect of administrators, performers, tech crew and faculty. People are delighted with her because she is perceptive, energetic, thorough and easy to work with. She has a strong commitment to education. She is an expert in her field and she is very patient with students."  - Drama Teacher, Bothell High School, Bothell

“Beth teaches the students to run the lighting for the show, they are taught how to rig, the thought process behind the lighting design and how to run a show without adult help. Beth has a great understanding of how to work with young people. They look forward to working with her and those that she works with usually end up in top tech positions at the High School. She takes complicated subject matter and makes it easy for people to understand. She is very patient and enjoys the interaction with young people.”  - Drama Teacher, Timbercrest Jr. High, Woodinville

“Beth has trained our lighting crew for stage productions…has generously contributed to our programs and productions…exhibits commitment, expertise and a love of working with children. Ms. Wade is bright, energetic and seriously interested in working with students. We feel fortunate to have benefited from her commitment and expertise.”  - Principal, Bear Creek Elementary School, Woodinville

“Beth has been instrumental…working every assembly for years (and we have at least one a month). She has trained student crews to work the assemblies, attended monthly staff assembly committee meetings, taught students the art of light design, presented light science to entire classrooms, and escorted students on field trips to the local high school drama department. Throughout this time period, she has demonstrated a mature, serious, and professional attitude. During class presentations, Beth carried out the educational goals and met performance standards as set forth by the state. Without exception, she demonstrated her knowledge and ability to conduct classes with the proper balance of professionalism and care for the students. She has a remarkable capacity for motivating and guiding young people. Beth gives 100% in all that she does. She is wonderful with young people, and they love her as much as do the teachers. She works well with students, is able to work well with different staff members, is dedicated and dependable, and most of all, loves teaching young people.”  - 6th Grade Teacher, Bear Creek Elementary, Woodinville

“Beth is well organized…understands her craft and communicates the technicalities with easily understood concepts…students get the opportunity for actual hands on experience…adaptable and flexible in adjusting to unanticipated circumstances.” - PE and Dance Teacher, Bear Creek Elementary School, Woodinville
